Our Merzouga 4×4 desert excursion is the perfect opportunity for those who want to explore and learn more about the Merzouga Sahara Desert. The stunning Erg Chebbi dunes offer fascinating sites to visit, including Hassi Labied Oasis, a small paradise nestled beside the dunes. This oasis is sustained by an intricate irrigation canal system and supports local agriculture, making it a vital part of desert life.

After visiting Hassi Labied, you’ll continue deeper into the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you can admire the breathtaking sandscapes and take unforgettable photos. The adventure continues off-road, along paths once traveled by the famous Rally Dakar.

One of the highlights of this excursion is meeting nomadic families who still live traditionally in tents in the middle of the desert. You’ll be warmly welcomed with a cup of fresh mint tea, hear their stories, and learn about their way of life.

Next, you’ll visit the M’ifis fossil mines, located on a hill with panoramic views of the Erg Chebbi dunes. In addition to being a tourist destination, Merzouga is also known for its minerals and fossils as a first chance to work , before the tourism shine . These open-cast mines are still in operation today, with nomadic workers descending into pits over 50 meters deep to retrieve valuable resources.

Your journey continues to the village of Khamlia, famous for its African Gnawa music. This unique African musical tradition was brought to Morocco by former slaves and has been preserved through generations. The local music association keeps the spirit alive with traditional songs and dances. Known as the “soul music” of the desert, Gnawa rhythms invite you to open your heart and connect with the culture.

You’ll then head north to the seasonal Sriji Lake, which appears after rainfall. When full, the lake attracts a variety of migratory birds, including the iconic pink flamingos. From here, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the Erg Chebbi dunes on one side and the mountains on the other.

This Morocco desert 4×4 excursion is flexible and can be done in 3 to 4 hours, either in the morning or afternoon. If you have your own car, we will send you our meeting location in Merzouga village. If not, we’re happy to pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation be it a hotel, riad, or desert camp.
